Dune Varela was born in 1976 in Paris. After studying law in Paris and cinema in New York, she directed numerous short films and documentaries.
The Franco-American artist then focused on analog photography, with a particular focus on landscapes and their representation. Each of these series proposes a discreet departure from the photographic gesture, renouncing the moment of shooting to concentrate on the processing of the image and its imaginary. Her most recent series reveal a shift to a sculptural approach to the image.
Her photographs have been exhibited in the chapel of the Morsiglia convent in Corsica. She has participated in exhibitions in Paris, at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Visconti Gallery, and the André Villers Museum of Photography in Mougins. She has also exhibited at Paris Photo, at the Rencontres de la Photographie (Arles), and at the Galerie particulière.
